Are copies of the books included in the book club membership?
We don’t currently offer a subscription box for the books, but they are all readily available from bookstores and libraries. Don’t forget about audiobooks too – they’re great for car journeys and when you’re tidying your room! We hope to add a book box as an option in the future. Let us know if you’d be interested!
If you can, please do support your local independent bookshop. Lexi Rees has a list of UK indie bookstores on Twitter, and if you have others that aren’t on the list, let her know.
What is the time commitment?
There’s no actual weekly commitment. We know how busy everyone is, so the membership is flexible and you can dip in and out as you wish. This is YOUR club.
How often are new books are added?
New books are added every month to each category – not too much to overwhelm a reluctant reader but enough to keep a book dragon busy.
What if we haven’t finished reading a book by the end of the month?
Don’t worry, you can print off the activity sheets to finish later.
How many activities are included for each book?
It varies depending on the book and the age group, but there will always be at least eight activities. That’s two per week, which should be achievable, but of course you don’t have to do every activity (although we hope you will to get the full benefits of an immersive learning environment).
What are the benefits of an annual book club membership?
2 months free (i.e. 12 months access for the price of 10 months)
Regular live author Q&As exclusively for annual members
7 day free trial period
How long is my commitment for?
You can cancel your membership at any time through your online account. Obviously, we hope you will enjoy your membership, but if you have comments or suggestions please do let us know.
Memberships are not refundable after the initial 7 day trial period.
Do you have safeguarding procedures?
The course materials are downloadable and there is no interaction between the students other than during the live author Q&A sessions for annual members which are hosted by Lexi Rees.. Lexi has an enhanced DBS certificate (you can read about what this means here).
What if we’ve read the books already?
The choice of books updates regularly so there will always be new books being added. We want to encourage our readers to try authors and genres they may not have seen before.so although we love Roald Dah, JK Rowling, and David Walliams, we won’t be featuring them in our club. If you’ve read every book in the current courses, let us know and we’ll do our best to find an alternative for you.
Black Lives Matter
The KidsClub believes that diversity in books from the characters to the authors is fundamental. We will try to include diverse books every month, but if you feel there is more we could do, please do let us know. We are trying, and we are learning. We’ve found these resources provided by SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) helpful – they include materials and some book recommendations, plus a great list of black owned bookstores.
What is the refund policy?
Annual memberships have a free 7 day trial period. After that point, there are no refunds.
Monthly memberships are non-refundable as materials are available instantly.
