Are copies of the books included in the book club membership?

Books are included in the subscription box membership. At the moment this is available in the UK only.

Books are not included in the online version, but they’re all readily available from bookstores and libraries. Don’t forget about audiobooks too – they’re great for car journeys and when you’re tidying your room! We hope to add a book box as an option in the future. Let us know if you’d be interested!

If you can, please do support your local independent bookshop. Lexi Rees has a list of UK indie bookstores on Twitter, and if you have others that aren’t on the list, let her know.

When are books posted for subscription box members?

Books for book-box subscription members are posted at the start of each month. Your first book will arrive with you midway through the month after you subscribe.

No need to wait in, our packs should fit through most letterboxes.

What is the time commitment?

There’s no weekly time commitment. We know how busy everyone is, so the membership is flexible and you can dip in and out as you wish. This is YOUR club.

How often are new books are added?

One new book is added every month to each category – not too much to overwhelm a reluctant reader but enough to keep a book dragon busy.

What if we haven’t finished reading a book by the end of the month?

Don’t worry, the activity packs stay online for three months so you can print off the activity sheets to finish later.

What if we’ve read the books already?

The choice of books updates regularly so there will always be new books being added. Feel free to make special requests – we love recommendations! We want to encourage our readers to try authors and genres they may not have seen although we love Roald Dah, JK Rowling, and David Walliams, we won’t be featuring them in our club. If you’ve read every book in the current courses, let us know and we’ll do our best to find an alternative for you.

How many activities are included for each book?

It varies depending on the book and the age group, but there will always be at least eight activities. That’s two per week, which should be achievable, but of course you don’t have to do every activity (although we hope you will to get the full benefits of an immersive learning environment).

Diversity and inclusion

The KidsClub believes that diversity and inclusivity in books, from the characters to the authors, is fundamental. We will try to include a wide range of books, but if you feel there is more we could do, please do let us know. We are trying, and we are learning. We’ve found these resources provided by SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) helpful – they include materials and some book recommendations, plus a great list of black owned bookstores.

Do you have safeguarding procedures?

The course materials are downloadable and there is no interaction between the students other than during the live author Q&A sessions for annual members which are hosted by Lexi Rees.. Lexi has an enhanced DBS certificate (you can read about what this means here).

Do you have a book club for the grown-ups too?

Not at the moment, but we’d love to recommend these two fabulous, friendly, Facebook book clubs – The Fiction Cafe and The Book Club. Both of them are run by readers and packed with authors and chats. Hopefully we’ll you there!

How long is my commitment for?

You can cancel your membership at any time through your online account. Obviously, we hope you will enjoy your membership, but if you have comments or suggestions please do let us know.

What is the refund policy?

Memberships are non-refundable as materials are available instantly, but you can cancel at any time (we hope you won’t though!).

A world of bookish adventures awaits
